How to Get to Dovre National Park #
Dovre National Park (Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella area) is accessed via the E6 highway and the Dovre region. Drive the E6 or take the Dovrebanen (Dovre Line) train from Oslo towards Dombås/Hjerkinn; alight at Dombås or Hjerkinn and continue by local road, shuttle or on foot into park trailheads. From Oslo it is a multi-hour journey by car or train (several hours); local mountain roads and trails provide access once in the Dovre area.

- Use the Hjerkinn area as the usual access point and information hub for trails into Dovre National Park-Hjerkinn provides trailheads and local guidance.
- Visit in summer (June-September) for the most accessible, snow-free trails and go early in the day for the best chance to see wild reindeer and to avoid afternoon weather changes.
- If you want to see musk oxen or learn more about wildlife, join a guided wildlife safari from Hjerkinn or Dombås rather than searching for them alone, and always stick to marked trails and park guidance.
