Douala-Édéa National Park is a protected area in Cameroon’s Littoral Region that conserves coastal lowland rainforest, swamp forest and mangrove ecosystems around the lower reaches of rivers near Douala and Édéa. The park forms an important ecological corridor between coastal estuaries and inland forest.

The park includes a mosaic of habitats from tidal mangroves to freshwater wetland and inland forest, providing habitat for a range of species adapted to coastal and swamp conditions. Management focuses on preserving these ecosystems while balancing use by local communities.

The area was designated to protect the region’s coastal biodiversity and remains one of the larger protected zones in Cameroon’s coastal plain, although parts of the landscape remain affected by development and resource use.

Geographically the park lies between the city of Douala on Cameroon’s Atlantic littoral and the town of Édéa upriver, encompassing estuarine and lowland forest tracts in the coastal plain.

  • Habitats: The park protects coastal mangroves, swamp forest and lowland evergreen rainforest near the cities of Douala and Édéa, conserving habitats that grade from river estuaries to inland forest.
  • Access: Access to much of the park's mangrove and estuarine zones is by boat, and conditions can be remote with limited road infrastructure inside the protected area.
