Lake Ossa is a freshwater lake in Cameroon’s Littoral Region located inland from the coastal zone. It forms part of a broader mosaic of wetlands and lowland waterways in the region.

The lake is used locally for fishing and supports freshwater biodiversity typical of Cameroonian lowland lakes. It is visited primarily by local residents rather than by large numbers of tourists.

Historically the lake has been a long-standing local resource; information about formal development or large-scale change is limited in public sources. Local land- and water-use practices shape the lake environment.

Positioned in Cameroon’s Littoral Region, the lake lies inland from the coastal belt and is accessible from nearby towns in the region by local roads.

Reached by road from Douala or Édéa; the drive is under two hours from Douala depending on traffic. Local minibuses serve nearby towns, and small boat operators run trips from shore villages into the marshy interior.

• Hire a local pirogue pilot to explore the reed fringes - they know where the birdlife congregates.
• Ask at nearby towns about seasonal restrictions; some parts of the reserve close during nesting.
• Carry cash for small conservation fees and boat hires; remote piers rarely take cards.
