Dong Ampham is a large protected forest area in Attapeu province in southern Laos, designated to conserve significant tracts of lowland and montane evergreen forest. It is recognised for its biodiversity and role in regional conservation.
Extensive, relatively remote forest landscapes with river valleys, ridges and patches of limestone karst characterise the area; wildlife viewing and conservation-focused field visits are the primary activities rather than developed tourism. The landscape supports a range of forest-dependent species and is important for ecological connectivity in the region.
Protected under Laos’ system of National Biodiversity Conservation Areas, the site has been managed for habitat protection and to reduce hunting and unsustainable land use pressures, with conservation projects focusing on species monitoring and community engagement.
Dong Ampham sits in Attapeu province in southeastern Laos, in a remote inland area near the border regions with Vietnam and Cambodia, composed of rugged forested terrain.
