Djebel Zaghouan is a mountain in northeastern Tunisia near the town of Zaghouan and is one of the higher peaks in the region. It is a notable geographic feature for its elevation and its association with ancient waterworks.
Hiking routes lead to summit viewpoints with wide views over the surrounding countryside and the passing ridge lines. The area is used for day hikes and short treks rather than technical mountaineering.
In antiquity the mountain was the source area for the Roman aqueduct that carried water to Carthage, and a Roman water sanctuary known as the Temple of the Waters stands at Zaghouan near the mountain. The mountain sits roughly south of Tunis in Zaghouan Governorate, forming a forested highland above the surrounding plains.

How to Get to Djebel Zaghouan #
Djebel Zaghouan is northeast of the town of Zaghouan and about 60-70 km from Tunis by road. Drive via the N1 and local roads to the mountain’s trailheads; regional buses serve Zaghouan town from Tunis, where onward local transport or taxis are needed for the final approach.
