About Disneyland

Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, is the original Disney theme park, opened by Walt Disney on July 17, 1955. It was the first Disney theme park and set the template for later parks worldwide, centered on a fairy-tale castle and a hub-and-spoke layout.

Visitors find a compact park with several distinct themed lands, classic attractions such as the original versions of Disneyland’s dark rides and family attractions, and continuous investment in new lands and attractions. The park’s close proximity to Downtown Disney and Disney California Adventure creates a multi-park resort complex.

Built under the direction of Walt Disney and his team, Disneyland has been updated and expanded many times since 1955 while retaining and preserving several original attractions and areas.

Disneyland sits in Anaheim in Southern California, adjacent to the Disney Resort hotels and the sister park Disney California Adventure; it is about 30 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.

How to Get to Disneyland

Disneyland Park sits in Anaheim adjacent to Disneyland Drive, Katella Avenue and Harbor Boulevard, immediately off Interstate 5. By car take I‑5 to the Disneyland Drive/Katella Avenue or Harbor Boulevard exits; on‑site parking lots are signed from those roads. For public transit, regional rail and bus services stop at the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) - from ARTIC you can take the Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) shuttle or a short taxi/ride‑share trip to the Resort (walking from ARTIC to the gates is a longer walk and most visitors use the shuttle or a quick drive).

Tips for Visiting Disneyland

  • Get to Disneyland before park opening and head straight to the busiest E-ticket attractions in your target land (e.g., Galaxy's Edge or Indiana Jones) - early entry yields dramatically shorter waits than later in the day.
  • Enter from the Esplanade/Main Street entrance for the fastest access to the park's core; check the Disneyland app on arrival for any virtual queues or boarding-group updates affecting major rides.
  • Many guests rush past the park's small shows, galleries and the Disneyland Railroad circle tour - visit these quieter experiences midday when ride lines are longest to get a break and still see signature park details.
