Beach White-sand beach on the Kenyan coast with coral reefs
Diani Beach on Kenya’s south coast south of Mombasa is known for long white sands, coral reefs and water sports; visitors stay at seaside lodges for diving, snorkelling and kitesurfing.
Diani Beach is a long white-sand coastal resort on Kenya’s south coast in Kwale County, known for its beaches, coral reefs and tourist facilities. The beachfront runs for roughly 10 kilometres and is backed by hotels, restaurants and small settlements.
The shore offers swimming, snorkeling and diving on reef-protected waters, plus kitesurfing, deep-sea fishing and other water sports. Boats run from Diani to nearby marine protected areas for snorkeling and diving, and day trips to local reserves and cultural sites are widely available.
Beyond water activities the area serves as a gateway to nearby terrestrial attractions such as Shimba Hills National Reserve, which provides short safaris, forest walks and waterfalls a short drive inland.
Originally a coastal fishing and Swahili-settlement area, Diani developed into an international beach resort across the 20th century as road and air connections to Mombasa improved; tourism is now a principal local economic activity.
