Dia (Nisiros or Nisiros is an alternative name historically used) is a small, uninhabited island north of Crete near Heraklion, noted for clear coastal waters, cliffs, caves and seabird habitat. It functions today as a local nature and recreational destination reached by short boat trips.

Day-trip visitors typically take short boat rides from Heraklion for swimming, snorkeling, coastal walks and birdwatching; the island’s sheltered bays and underwater scenery attract recreational snorkelers and small-boat visitors. Shorelines include coves, sea caves and small beaches suitable for short landings.
