How to Get to Danau Sentani #

Fly to Sentani (Jayapura) Airport (DJJ), which is adjacent to Lake Sentani and is the main air gateway for Jayapura. Tips for Visiting Danau Sentani #

  • Start on the lake at sunrise - local boat operators from Sentani town run early trips when fishermen and floating village activity are at their liveliest and lighting is best for photos.
  • Hire a local boatman from Sentani rather than an impromptu ride - they know which islets and village landings are welcome, can introduce you to village hosts, and help you navigate informal landing fees and customs.
  • Combine a lake trip with a short visit to Sentani town (near Sentani Airport) to see local markets and handicrafts; avoid visiting during heavy rains when boat services can be disrupted.
