About Dalaffilla

Dalaffilla is a volcanic cone in the Afar region of northeastern Ethiopia, situated within the East African Rift system and the Danakil Depression. The feature is one of several volcanic centers that occur where the continental crust is rifting.

The cone and surrounding lava fields display typical fissure and cone volcanism associated with the rift, and the area is of interest to volcanologists studying continental breakup and basaltic eruptions. The volcanic terrain is largely barren and sparsely inhabited.

Volcanic activity in the Afar rift is episodic and has shaped the broader landscape over recent geological times; individual cones such as Dalaffilla are part of that ongoing tectono-volcanic history. Scientific teams periodically study the region’s activity and geology.
