Nicosia & Central Mesaoria Plain
A change arrives in September when temperatures start to drop a few degrees-afternoons are often still very warm in the low 30s, but evenings become noticeably comfortable. This is an excellent month for inland touring: vineyards around Nicosia begin grape harvests and small village festivals pick up pace. Occasional late-summer thunderstorms can bring dramatic clouds and brief heavy rain.
Southern Coast (Limassol, Larnaca & Sewn Beaches)
September still feels summery-sea temperatures remain comfortable for swimming and daytime highs drop slightly into the high 20s, making longer beach days pleasant without midsummer extremes. The sea is at its warmest at the start of the month, and late-season storms are uncommon but possible. This is one of the best months for diving and sailing as waters are calm and visibility is high.
Western Coast & Paphos Peninsula (Paphos, Akamas, Polis)
September eases off from peak heat while sea temperatures stay pleasantly warm, making it one of the best months for diving and sailing off Paphos. Daytime highs drop into the high 20s and the tourist numbers thin out after schools resume. Autumn storms are still rare early in the month, and sunsets over the peninsula are long and photogenic-pack light layers for cooler nights.
Eastern Coast & Famagusta Bay (Ayia Napa, Protaras, Famagusta)
September is a favorite month for many visitors-warm sea temperatures and milder air (high 20s) make it ideal for swimming and diving while crowds thin. The weather suits sun-seekers and active travellers alike, with comfortable evenings for dining out. Occasional autumn squalls are possible late in the month; a light rain jacket keeps plans flexible.
Troodos Mountains & Highlands
September marks a cooling trend with delightful hiking weather-days in the high teens and evenings that feel crisp, especially after rain. Autumn colours begin to appear in late September at higher elevations and the grapes in nearby foothills head toward harvest. This is a popular month for trail running and cycling; pack layers for variable mountain weather.
Northern Coast & Kyrenia Bay (Kyrenia, Famagusta hinterland)
September cools slightly but remains very pleasant for swimming, with daytime highs in the high 20s and comfortable evenings. Harvest activity in the hinterland and fewer crowds on beaches make this an excellent shoulder-season month. Keep an eye on local forecasts for the occasional autumn storm and bring a light jacket for breezy evenings by the sea.
