Nicosia & Central Mesaoria Plain

By late February the plain smells of wet earth; showers remain frequent but daylight grows noticeably longer. Carnivals in Nicosia and nearby villages stir the streets-expect crowds on festival weekends and muddier country lanes. Daytime highs commonly reach the mid-teens, but cold snaps can drop nights near freezing so pack layers for walking through historic quarters.

Southern Coast (Limassol, Larnaca & Sewn Beaches)

February sees more frequent rain but also clear, mild interludes conducive to walking the Larnaca salt lake and visiting St. Lazarus church. Temperatures hover in the mid-teens by day, and migrating flamingos can still be present at the lake if conditions are right. There is a lively pre-Lenten carnival season nearby; bring a compact umbrella and a sweater for breezy evenings.

Western Coast & Paphos Peninsula (Paphos, Akamas, Polis)

February continues the winter pattern of alternating mild sunny days and rain; temperatures are generally in the mid-teens. Cyclamen and spring bulbs begin to show among the garrigue at Akamas and in the valleys around Polis, making coastal drives visually appealing. Expect quiet hotels and off-season ferry services-pack a waterproof and sturdy boots for short hikes.

Eastern Coast & Famagusta Bay (Ayia Napa, Protaras, Famagusta)

February offers a mix of mild sunny days and rainy intervals; temperatures are usually in the mid-teens. The sea remains cool, but tourists are few, enabling more relaxed visits to the Cape Greco nature trails and quieter beaches. Keep a compact umbrella handy-heavy spits can appear suddenly and some coastal paths get muddy.

Troodos Mountains & Highlands

February often sustains deeper snowpack on higher slopes, creating reliable conditions for winter sports when cold snaps persist. Lower elevations around Troodos villages are cold but drier; the mountain monasteries feel remote and atmospheric in snow-lined landscapes. If you plan to ski or snowshoe, book rentals and check weather forecasts-roads can close temporarily after heavy falls.

Northern Coast & Kyrenia Bay (Kyrenia, Famagusta hinterland)

February remains cool and changeable-sunny interludes alternate with rain; daytime temperatures are generally in the mid-teens. The citrus groves inland are still harvesting, and Kyrenia castle is pleasantly uncrowded for museum visits. Roads above the coast can be windy-bring a windproof layer and plan indoor alternatives in case of persistent rain.
