Pašman Island

Pašman is an island in the northern Dalmatian archipelago off Croatia’s Zadar coast, characterised by a mix of small villages, olive groves and sheltered bays. It is a low-lying island with a largely Mediterranean landscape and a focus on sea-based recreation.

The island’s attractions are its beaches, clear coastal waters and opportunities for cycling, hiking and sea kayaking between coves. Small settlements provide local services and seasonal visitor accommodation, while boat traffic and ferries link Pašman to the mainland and nearby islands.

Historically the island developed through medieval settlement, maritime activities and agricultural traditions such as olive and fig cultivation; churches and small historic centres reflect this long settlement history.

Pašman lies in Zadar County within the northern Dalmatian island group, relatively close to the Croatian mainland and served by ferry routes to Biograd na Moru and other Dalmatian ports.

• Tkon: The town of Tkon is the island’s principal ferry connection to the Croatian mainland and hosts basic services, shops and seasonal accommodation.
• Ždrelac channel: The narrow channel at Ždrelac links the island to nearby Ugljan by a short bridge and is a local transit point between islands in the Zadar archipelago.

The island of Pašman is served by car ferries from the Dalmatian mainland. A regular Jadrolinija ferry runs from Biograd na Moru to the port of Tkon on Pašman. Biograd is about a 25-30 km drive south from Zadar by road; from Tkon harbor the main villages on Pašman are a short drive or walk inland. Local roads and small ferries connect settlements on the island.

• Take the Jadrolinija ferry from Biograd na Moru to Tkon (the usual short car/passenger crossing) or reach Pašman via the bridge at Ždrelac from Ugljan; check seasonal ferry schedules in advance.
• Avoid peak July-August mid‑day beach crowds by arriving early or late; once the day‑trippers leave you can explore quieter coves and fishing villages.
• Rent a bike or use local boat taxis to access lesser‑visited beaches and inland villages - many visitors stay on the main coastal strip and miss the island's interior paths and small konobas.
