Cratère Bory is a volcanic crater located on Piton de la Fournaise on Réunion Island at the provided coordinates. It forms part of the large Enclos Fouqué caldera and the recent volcanic landscape of the volcano’s summit and flanks.
The crater is a product of repeated eruptions of Piton de la Fournaise, a large shield volcano; eruptions and lava flows have shaped and repeatedly rebuilt the caldera and its subsidiary craters. Access to areas within the Enclos Fouqué is regulated and can be closed during eruptive activity for safety.
Situated on the eastern side of Réunion, the crater lies within the island’s protected volcanic area. The nearest settled areas are on Réunion Island itself, which is an overseas department of France in the western Indian Ocean.
