Monte Coglians (German: Hohe Warte) is the highest summit of the Carnic Alps and the highest point in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It reaches roughly 2,780 metres in elevation.

The mountain has a broad summit area and is a destination for hikers and mountaineers seeking panoramic views across the Carnic range and toward neighbouring Alpine groups. Routes approach the summit from valleys on both the Italian and Austrian sides.

The peak lies on the border area between Italy and Austria and is part of the Carnic chain geologically tied to the Southern Limestone Alps. It is a natural high point rather than a heavily glaciated peak.

Located in northeastern Italy within Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the mountain sits near the border with Austria and dominates the local highland skyline.

Monte Coglians (in the Carnic Alps) is reached by road from the regional road network out of Udine: take the A23/E55 north from Udine toward the Carnia area, then continue on provincial roads toward towns such as Tolmezzo, Sappada or Forni Avoltri which serve as road gateways to the mountain.

From those towns drive on local mountain roads to trailhead parking areas and alpine trailheads; the summit is approached on marked hiking/alpine routes and requires a mountain hike rather than public-transport access direct to the peak.

• Plan ascents in the core summer months (July-September) when alpine routes are most likely to be free of persistent snow and ice; outside that window the mountain requires alpine equipment and experience.
• Start very early in the day to reduce exposure to common afternoon thunderstorms in the Alps and to avoid the few peak-season parties that use the standard approaches.
• If you want solitude and wider views, seek higher ridgelines rather than the main summit trail during mid‑week - the peak attracts most visitors on weekends, while nearby ridges give panoramic views of the Carnic and Julian ranges that many hikers miss.
