Church of Holy Cross Religious Site

The Church of the Holy Cross in Nin, Croatia is a compact early medieval chapel dating to the 9th century and often described as one of the smallest sacral buildings in the region. Its small rectangular plan and preserved stonework make it a notable example of early Croatian pre-Romanesque architecture.

The building’s principal attraction is its diminutive size and original masonry; visitors view the exterior stonework and the simple interior which preserves the early medieval form. It has occasionally been called a ‘chapel’ or ‘small cathedral’ because of its symbolic importance rather than scale.

The church stands in the historic town of Nin on a tiny islet just off the central part of town, connected by a short bridge to the main street, within Zadar County on Croatia’s Adriatic coast.
