Chek Lap Kok is an island in the northern waters of Lantau Island, Hong Kong, primarily known as the site of the Hong Kong International Airport. The present island and adjacent reclaimed land form the airport platform used for the city’s main international air hub.
The airport complex including terminals, runways and associated infrastructure occupies the vast majority of the island and its reclaimed extensions; airport facilities, observation points and transport links are the primary features. Nearby transport connections to Hong Kong Island and the New Territories include the Lantau Link and rail services, making the airport the main arrival and departure point for international visitors.
Chek Lap Kok and the adjacent small island Lam Chau were combined and extensively reclaimed in the 1990s to create the artificial island platform for the new airport; the new Hong Kong International Airport opened in 1998. The construction project replaced the former Kai Tak airport in Kowloon.
The island is located off the north shore of Lantau Island in the territory of Hong Kong, adjacent to the Pearl River estuary and connected to the rest of Hong Kong by road and rail links.

How to Get to Chek Lap Kok #
Access Chek Lap Kok via the Airport Express (Hong Kong MTR) to Hong Kong International Airport Station or the Tung Chung MTR line (Tung Chung Station) with bus or taxi connections. Road access is available via North Lantau Highway.

- Chek Lap Kok is essentially Hong Kong International Airport-plan transit via Airport Express or Tung Chung line rather than trying to navigate by road from Lantau.
- For panoramic views of the airport and surrounding reclaimed land, take the Ngong Ping 360 cable car or walk parts of the Lantau Trail (sections are near the airport).
- If using public transport, buy an Airport Express ticket or an Octopus card for seamless transfers.
