Charles Square (Karlovo náměstí) is a major public square in the New Town district of Prague, Czech Republic, created in 1348 during the foundation of Nové Město by Emperor Charles IV. It is one of the largest medieval squares in Europe and has long been a focal point for civic and commercial activity.
The square is bounded by historic buildings and institutions and has been used over centuries for markets, fairs and public gatherings. Today it forms an open urban space within central Prague and is served by public transport.
Located in the New Town area of Prague, it sits south of the historic Old Town and is part of the city’s medieval urban fabric created under Charles IV.
