How to Get to Cefalù
Cefalù sits on Sicily's northern coast and is best reached from Palermo. The town has its own Trenitalia station on the Palermo-Messina line, so trains from Palermo Centrale are usually the fastest and cheapest option for visitors.
Falcone-Borsellino Airport, Palermo (PMO): Palermo’s airport (PMO) is the nearest major airport for Cefalù - drive or shuttle from PMO to Cefalù takes about 50-70 minutes by car (70-90 km). Car hire or private transfer typically costs €60-€100; trains from Palermo Centrale are a cheaper option (see train card below).
Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA): Catania is farther away (about 2-2.5 hours by car); it can be an alternative if you have multi-stop travel in eastern Sicily. Transfers from CTA to Cefalù by car cost roughly €120-€180 and take around 2-2.5 hours.
Train: Cefalù has its own train station, Cefalù, on the Palermo-Messina coastal line. Regional Trenitalia trains run from Palermo Centrale to Cefalù in about 50-60 minutes; tickets for regional trains typically cost around €4-€6 one-way. Trains are frequent and the easiest, most reliable way to reach Cefalù from Palermo.
Bus: Local and regional buses (for example AST and Interbus on some seasonal routes) connect Cefalù with nearby towns; buses are useful for destinations not on the rail line but trains remain the preferred public option for Palermo-Cefalù travel.
How to Get Around Cefalù #
Cefalù’s historic centre is very walkable; narrow streets and the beach are best explored on foot. The town has a train station with regular regional services to Palermo and Messina, making day trips easy; taxis are available but limited. If you plan to visit headlands or nearby bays, a car is useful. Seasonal bike and scooter rentals appear in summer.
