Çatalada is a small island in Muğla Province on Turkey’s Aegean coast, located off the shore near the resort areas of Marmaris. It is one of several small islets in the coastal archipelago popular with day boats.
The island is known for sheltered bays, clear water and simple beach areas that make it a frequent stop on boat tours. Snorkeling and short coastal walks are common activities when boats call at the islet.
Çatalada has been used historically as a local waypoint and shelter in the Aegean coastal waters; in modern times it has become part of the recreational day-boat itinerary from nearby resorts. There is no major built infrastructure on the islet.
The islet sits off the Muğla coast in southwestern Turkey, within easy boat distance of Marmaris and other resorts on the Aegean Sea. The surrounding sea is a network of small islands and sheltered bays.
- Access: Served by regular short boat excursions from Marmaris and nearby coastal towns during the tourist season.
How to Get to Çatalada #
The island is easiest reached by day-boat from Marmaris harbour (Marmaris Marina). Regular excursion boats and private charters depart from the central quay; the trip takes approximately 20-40 minutes depending on sea state. Private yachts and rental boats can anchor in the island’s bays, but check with local skippers for safe landing spots.
Tips for Visiting Çatalada #
- Catch the first boats from Marmaris harbour to avoid midday tour-boat crowds and to see the cliffs in morning light.
- Bring a snorkel kit - the lee side of the island has clear water and small caves worth poking around.
- Ask the boatman to drop off at the small pebble beach on the eastern side rather than the busy anchorage; it's quieter and better for a swim.
