The Castle of Santa Catalina is a coastal bastion built on a rocky platform beside La Caleta beach in Cádiz, Andalusia, dating mainly from the early modern period. It occupies a prominent rocky outcrop that projects into the sea and was part of the city’s coastal defenses.

The fort provides close views along La Caleta and across Cádiz’s waterfront from its terraces and battlements, and its compact plan is typical of coastal defensive work. The immediate surroundings are popular for promenades and photography of the city shoreline.

Constructed and modified between the 17th and 18th centuries, the castle served as an artillery fortification guarding approaches to Cádiz; it has been repaired and adapted over centuries to meet changing defensive needs. In recent decades it has been opened for public access and used for cultural programmes.

The castle stands on the shoreline of Cádiz’s historic centre directly adjacent to La Caleta beach, within easy walking distance of the old town and the city’s main seafront avenues.

Castillo de Santa Catalina is on the seafront next to La Caleta beach in Cádiz’s historic quarter. It’s an easy walk from the city centre-follow the Paseo de la Caleta or Calle de la Palma from Plaza de España or the old town (around 5-15 minutes on foot depending on starting point). Vehicular access is via the seafront roads (Paseo de la Caleta/Avenida Duque de Nájera) with limited nearby parking.

• Go early in the morning before the beach crowds arrive to enjoy the fortifications and the promenade in relative peace.
• Enter from the Paseo de la Caleta promenade so you can combine the visit with a short walk to the nearby Roman Theatre and the Museo de Cádiz.
• Pause on the terrace overlooking La Caleta-many visitors skip the viewpoints and the small defensive galleries that give a better sense of the fort's coastal role.
