Carlisle Castle is a medieval fortress in the city of Carlisle, Cumbria, with origins in the late 11th century when a Norman motte-and-bailey stronghold was established on the site. It became a principal defensive and administrative castle on the Anglo-Scottish border.

The castle complex includes a central keep, curtain walls and later fortifications reflecting medieval and post-medieval military architecture; museum displays and interpretation focus on its border history. Visitors commonly see the gatehouse, inner wards and surviving medieval masonry.
