The Cappella Colleoni is a 15th-century Renaissance funerary chapel in Bergamo Alta, Lombardy, built as the monumental tomb of the condottiero Bartolomeo Colleoni and completed in the late 1400s.

Commissioned by Bartolomeo Colleoni in the mid-15th century, the chapel was executed by regional Renaissance workshops; Giovanni Antonio Amadeo is closely associated with its design and execution. Since its completion it has functioned as a funerary chapel and civic monument and has been preserved as part of Bergamo’s historical ensemble.

Positioned in Bergamo Alta on the upper town near Piazza Vecchia in Lombardy, the chapel is within walking distance of the civic centre and is one of the principal monuments of the historic hilltop core.

• Architecture note: The exterior is noted for a richly polychrome marble façade and a finely proportioned late-15th-century design by Giovanni Antonio Amadeo.

• Adjacent basilica and piazza: The chapel forms a compact complex directly adjacent to the 12th-century Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo Alta, sharing the same small piazza.

Cappella Colleoni sits in Bergamo’s Città Alta. From Bergamo’s lower‑town train/bus station take the Bergamo funicular up to Città Alta; the chapel is a very short (2-5 minute) walk from the upper funicular station. Trains from Milan (Trenord) serve Bergamo station, from which you transfer to the funicular.

• Take the funicular up to Bergamo's Città Alta early in the day to reach the Cappella Colleoni before tour groups arrive and to enjoy the square and façade in softer light.
• Enter from Piazza del Duomo so you can visit the chapel and then continue into the adjoining basilica and civic museum; many visitors focus on the exterior and miss the richly decorated interior and tomb of Bartolomeo Colleoni.
• Buy combined or multi-site tickets where offered and allow time to see the sacristy and adjoining museum collection-these interior spaces contain details and works people often overlook when only snapping exterior photos.
