Cape Lopez

The Isle of Dogs is a peninsula in East London formed by a large meander of the River Thames and administered largely within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

The area is known for the Canary Wharf financial district, a cluster of modern office towers, shopping and transport hubs built on former docklands. Public riverside promenades, converted dock basins and newer residential schemes are also major draws.

The Isle of Dogs developed in the 19th century as a centre of docks and maritime trade; much of that infrastructure closed in the mid-20th century and the area underwent large-scale redevelopment from the 1980s into a modern business district.

Geographically the peninsula lies on the north bank of the Thames about 4-6 kilometres east of the historic City of London, bounded on three sides by the river.

• Transport links: Canary Wharf contains major underground and rail connections including Jubilee line services and a station on the Elizabeth line, improving access to central London.
• Notable tower: One Canada Square is approximately 235 metres tall and was for many years the tallest building on the Isle of Dogs and a defining element of the skyline.

• One Canada Square: A 50-storey landmark tower rising to about 235 metres that has dominated the Isle of Dogs skyline since its completion and serves as an office landmark within Canary Wharf.
• Former docks / West India Docks: Historic dock basins such as the West India Docks that were central to the area's 19th- and 20th-century shipping and industrial activity and now form marinas and public spaces.
