Cape Crillon
Cape Southern Sakhalin cape with rugged coastal cliffs
A rocky cape on Sakhalin’s southern coast noted for steep shores and seabird colonies. Nature-minded visitors come for coastal walks, birding and photography of a remote Pacific shoreline.
Cape Crillon is a headland on the southeastern coast of Sakhalin Island in Russia’s Sakhalin Oblast, positioned near the La Pérouse (Soya) Strait. It is a maritime landmark marking part of the entrance to the strait between Sakhalin and Hokkaido.
The cape itself is primarily a natural headland with coastal cliffs and shoreline exposure to open sea; it functions mainly as a navigational point rather than a developed tourist destination. Views from the headland look across the strait toward Hokkaido on clear days.
The cape has long been noted on regional nautical charts because of its position at the strait; it has played a role in maritime navigation and regional mapping. Local human settlement and infrastructure are limited in the immediate area.
Cape Crillon sits on Sakhalin Island’s southern coast in Russia, facing the narrow La Pérouse Strait that separates Sakhalin from northern Japan.
- Geographic note: Located on the southeastern tip of Sakhalin Oblast, the cape faces the La Pérouse Strait toward Japan's Hokkaido.
