Caohai Lake

Caohai Lake is a highland wetland and lake in southwest China known as an important freshwater marsh and bird habitat. The lake sits within a regional nature reserve that protects reedbeds, marshes and shallow open water.

Extensive reedbeds and shallow waters support large concentrations of waterbirds and migratory species; the site is particularly noted for wintering waders and cranes. Boardwalks and viewing points are used by birdwatchers to observe species without disturbing habitats.
