Camiguin Island
Island Small island in Cagayan Sea, northern Philippines
Philippine island in the Cagayan Valley region. Travelers visit for coastal beaches, local fishing and boat-based snorkeling around rocky shorelines.
Camiguin Island in the Cagayan Valley region is a small island in the Babuyan Islands chain off northern Luzon, Philippines. It is a remote, volcanic island distinct from the larger Camiguin province in southern Philippines.
The island is part of the northern archipelago and is visited mainly by boat from the northern Luzon coast; there are no large settlements and facilities are limited. Natural features include volcanic terrain and rugged shoreline rather than developed tourist infrastructure.
Historically the Babuyan Islands have been sparsely populated and used intermittently for fishing and small-scale habitation; this Camiguin shares that pattern of limited permanent settlement. The island’s volcanic origin shapes its topography and coastal features.
Geographically it lies in the Luzon Strait area north of the main island of Luzon, within the administrative region of Cagayan in the northern Philippines.
- Name note: A different island with the same name exists in Mindanao; this Camiguin is the small volcanic island in the Babuyan group off northern Luzon in Cagayan region.
