Calvert Island (British Columbia)

Calvert Island is a large, sparsely populated island off the central coast of British Columbia, Canada. It forms part of the complex island and inlet geography of the province’s Pacific coast.

Visitors encounter rugged shoreline, temperate rainforest and marine habitats; the island is used for limited recreation, scientific study and traditional uses rather than tourism infrastructure. Access is by private boat or air and on-site facilities are minimal.

Like much of the central coast, the island has long-standing connections with local Indigenous peoples and has been used for fishing, hunting and seasonal camps. European and Canadian mapping and occasional resource use followed in later centuries.
