Cairnpapple Hill is a prehistoric ritual and burial complex on a prominent hill in West Lothian, Scotland, notable for a central cairn and surrounding ceremonial earthworks dating to the Neolithic and Bronze Age.

Visitors encounter the surviving mound and concentric banks, exposed burial deposits and stone settings on the summit, with interpretation explaining the site’s long use. The hilltop provides clear views over the surrounding plain and the Forth valley, which helps to illustrate the monument’s commanding position.

Archaeological work in the 20th century revealed multiple phases of activity from the Neolithic through the Bronze Age, including funerary deposits and structural remains associated with burial and ritual use. The visible earthworks represent a long-lived ceremonial landscape rather than a single-period monument.

Cairnpapple Hill is near Bathgate in West Lothian. The site is a short drive from Bathgate and accessible from the A89; local parking and interpretation panels are provided. Public transport options to Bathgate include rail, with a short taxi or bus onward to the site.
