Cádiz Cathedral

Cádiz Cathedral (Catedral de la Santa Cruz) is the Roman Catholic cathedral located in the old town of Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain. Its construction began in the 18th century and was completed in the early 19th century, combining Baroque and Neoclassical styles.

The building houses a cathedral museum with religious art and artifacts, and visitors can climb one of the towers for panoramic views over the city and the Bay of Cádiz. Architecturally, the cathedral is notable for its length across the plaza, twin towers and the gilded or tiled central dome that is visible from many points in the city.

The present cathedral replaced earlier medieval and Renaissance churches; its long construction span reflects changing styles and financial interruptions during the 18th and 19th centuries. Since completion it has served as the seat of the Cádiz diocese and as a focal point of the old town’s religious and civic life.
