Butiama (Mara Region) is most easily reached by road from Musoma or Mwanza; Musoma Airport is the nearest regional airfield when flights are scheduled. Regional buses and dala‑dalas provide local connections.
Mwanza Airport (MWZ): For Butiama the nearest larger airport is Mwanza; from Mwanza you can travel overland by bus or private car to the Mara Region - the drive to Butiama is about 3-4 hours and costs vary by vehicle hire or bus ticket.
Musoma Airport (MUZ): Closer to Butiama is Musoma Airport; when flights to Musoma are available, onward road transfer to Butiama is typically 30-90 minutes by taxi or bus and much quicker than coming from Mwanza.
Train: There is no direct passenger rail service to Butiama; Tanzania’s passenger rail network does not serve this locality for routine travel.
Bus / dala‑dala: Intercity buses and minibuses (dala‑dala) run throughout the Mara Region. Regular bus services connect Musoma and other regional centres with Butiama; local dala‑dalas and taxis handle short hops - expect fares in the low thousands of TZS and journey times of under 2 hours from Musoma.
