Sahel / Northern Burkina (Dori, Djibo, Gorom‑Gorom)

By November the harmattan begins to reassert itself: very dry air lowers humidity, mornings and evenings cool noticeably, and daytime temperatures are comfortable for long walks or city visits. Dust episodes can reduce visibility, particularly later in the month, but the stabilized roads and clearer skies are helpful for travel. Nights are much cooler now than in the wet season, so a light jacket is useful and mosquitoes are much less of a problem.

Central Plateau & Ouagadougou (capital region)

October is noticeably drier and more comfortable, with fewer storms and a return of clear skies; the plateau’s savanna starts to brown but access to country roads is reliable again. Daytime temperatures are pleasant and nights cool, so outdoor markets and open‑air dining resume in earnest. It’s a convenient month for combining city time with short excursions to nearby cultural sites, though mosquitos can persist early in the month.

West & Hauts‑Bassins (Bobo‑Dioulasso, Banfora approach)

October is the start of the drying trend: showers become sporadic and the landscape begins the slow transition toward its drier palette, though many side streams still flow. It’s a good month to visit Karfiguéla waterfalls before they drop for the dry season; insect numbers fall and road travel becomes easier. Expect more local traffic as farms prepare for harvesting, and pack layers for fluctuating morning and evening temperatures.

Southwest Cascades & Banfora (Karfiguéla falls, Sindou)

October’s drier days return with warm temperatures and much reduced storms; the cascades slow but are still attractive while the dry season begins to reclaim the hills. It’s an excellent time for walking and visiting Sindou’s razor‑like rock formations before the tourist high season; insect levels fall and hospitality services resume full offerings. Bring sunscreen and a light layer for cooler nights.

East & Gourma Plains (Fada N’Gourma, Pama, Arly area)

October is markedly drier and travel into Arly buffers becomes much easier, with rivers lowered and dusty tracks once more offering reliable access. Daytime heat is manageable and nights grow cool - an ideal shoulder month for wildlife viewing and cultural visits. Arrange guided walks or drives in advance as lodge and guide availability increases with improving access.
