How to Get to Brufut
Brufut is best reached via Banjul International Airport (BJL). There is no passenger rail service; road minibuses, shared taxis and airport taxis connect Banjul and Serrekunda with Brufut.
Banjul International Airport (BJL): Taxis are the most direct way into Brufut from Banjul Airport; the drive is about 25-40 minutes depending on traffic. Expect around GMD 300-500 for a metered taxi (prices vary by vehicle and negotiation). Shared minibuses/taxis toward Serrekunda/Brufut leave the airport area and cost significantly less (often GMD 50-150) but take longer as they pick up passengers.
Dakar-Blaise Diagne International (DSS): Some travellers fly into Dakar and cross the border by road. From Dakar airport the drive to Brufut is long (3.5-5+ hours including border formalities) and typically done by private transfer or scheduled coach services; costs and schedules vary widely so book in advance if you plan this route.
Train: The Gambia has no regular national passenger rail service that serves Brufut.
Bus / Minibus: Road minibuses and shared taxis (often called ‘sengekas’ or shared taxis) are the main public option. Services run between Banjul/Serrekunda and coastal towns near Brufut; short runs inside the West Coast Division commonly take 30-60 minutes and fares are low (small single-figure amounts in GMD). For door-to-door travel, pre-booked taxis or private transfers are faster and more convenient.
