Brava, Cape Verde

Brava is a small volcanic island in the Sotavento (leeward) group of Cape Verde, known for its steep, terraced hills and relatively cool, humid climate. It is one of the archipelago’s smaller inhabited islands and is noted for its compact villages and horticulture.

Key features include the main town of Nova Sintra with traditional architecture and hillside viewpoints, and rugged interior ridges that rise sharply from the coast and offer panoramic views. Ferries and small aircraft connections link Brava to nearby islands, but transport can be infrequent and weather-dependent.

The island lies to the southwest of Fogo and forms part of Cape Verde’s southern island chain; its small area and higher elevations give it a distinct microclimate compared with the larger islands.
