Bosten Lake

Bosten Lake (Bosten Hu) is a large inland freshwater lake in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China, and is the region’s largest lake by surface area. It is an important local resource for irrigation, fisheries, and wildlife, with extensive reedbeds and wetland margins.

The lake covers on the order of one thousand square kilometres and supports commercial fishing operations as well as seasonal waterbird populations. Parts of the shoreline and wetlands are designated for conservation to protect habitats and migratory species.
