Bongoyo Island is a small, uninhabited island off the coast of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and is part of the Dar es Salaam Marine Reserve. It is a popular short-day-trip destination for beach visits and reef snorkeling.
The island offers sandy beaches, shallow reef areas for snorkeling and short coastal walking paths. Facilities are limited to a few basic day-visitor shelters and informal food stalls during peak season. Typical trips take 20 to 30 minutes by motorboat from Dar es Salaam harbour or the nearby Slipway.
The island is within the marine reserve and is managed to balance day-use tourism with reef and coastal habitat protection. There is no overnight accommodation on the island and visitors are expected to carry out their waste.
Bongoyo lies a short boat ride offshore from central Dar es Salaam, within sight of the city skyline on clear days and surrounded by shallow coral reef and sandbars.
