Bogd Khan Mountain (Bogd Khan Uul) is a forested mountain immediately south of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, that has been protected by law since the late 18th century. It is culturally important and historically reserved as a hunting and spiritual site for Mongol leaders.
The mountain offers a mix of wooded slopes, granite outcrops and trails used for day walking and pilgrimage to small religious sites. Its proximity to the capital makes it a popular recreational green space for residents.
Protection was first formalised in the 1700s and has been maintained in various forms to conserve the area’s forests and cultural monuments. Modern management balances conservation with public access.
Bogd Khan Mountain rises directly south of Ulaanbaatar and forms a visible wooded ridge on the city’s southern edge.

There are several park entrances and trailheads on roads leading out of southern Ulaanbaatar; visitors usually drive or take city minibuses to the foothill access points.

- Visit Bogd Khan Uul early in the morning for clearer air and better visibility above Ulaanbaatar-city pollution often builds up later in the day.

- Include the Manzushir monastery site (on the mountain's slopes) in your plan-it's the most accessible cultural stop associated with Bogd Khan and is reachable on a short drive plus a brief walk.
