Big Hill Springs Provincial Park is a small Alberta provincial park that protects spring-fed cascades and travertine-formed terraces. The site is valued for its easy walks, waterfalls and accessible picnic spaces.
A compact network of trails leads past a series of small falls and pools formed where carbonate-rich spring water deposits tufa over time. The main loop is a short walk suitable for families and photographers, with close views of the cascading springs and rock formations.
The springs have deposited travertine and built the stepped cascades over centuries; the park preserves both the springs and the surrounding aspen and mixed-wood vegetation. Facilities are basic and oriented to day use.
The park is in southern Alberta’s foothills, northwest of the Calgary region and near the small towns outside the metropolitan area. It is accessed from regional roads and is a common short-stop for visitors exploring the area around Calgary.
