Berlin Cathedral
Church Grand Protestant cathedral on Berlin's Museum Island
On Museum Island, the Berlin Cathedral’s painted dome and Neo‑Renaissance interior draw visitors for organ concerts, guided tours and rooftop views across central Berlin and nearby museums.
Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom) is a large Protestant cathedral on Museum Island in central Berlin, completed in its present neo-Renaissance form in 1905 under the direction of architect Julius Raschdorff.
The interior is notable for its high dome, richly decorated nave, and large organ. Visitors often go to the dome walkway for elevated views over Museum Island and to see the Hohenzollern crypt and its funerary monuments in the lower levels.
A succession of churches has occupied the site; the current building was erected at the turn of the 20th century, severely damaged in World War II and largely restored in the second half of the 20th century and into the 1990s. Conservation and restoration work has continued to preserve interior decoration and the exterior.
The cathedral stands on Museum Island beside the Spree River in Berlin’s Mitte district, adjacent to the Lustgarten and within walking distance of Alexanderplatz and other central landmarks.
- Dome views: Climb the dome walkway for views over Museum Island, the Spree and the Fernsehturm; access may require a separate ticket or timed entry.

- Hohenzollern Crypt: Undercroft and burial area containing the crypt of members of the Hohenzollern family and related funerary monuments.

Tips for Visiting Berlin Cathedral #
- Buy a dome-access ticket and climb the cathedral's dome early in the morning for one of the best elevated views of Museum Island and central Berlin before visitor lines build.
