The Murugan Statue at Batu Caves is a large, gold-painted statue of the Hindu deity Lord Murugan that stands at the foot of the Batu Caves complex in Gombak, Selangor. It is an iconic and immediately recognizable feature marking the entrance to the cave temples.

The statue measures about 42.7 metres in height and sits in front of the main stairway - a flight of 272 steps - that leads up to the principal cave temple on the limestone outcrop. The statue and stairway create the primary approach and photo point for most visitors.

The statue was completed and unveiled in 2006 and has since been a focal point for worship during Thaipusam and for general tourist visits to the Batu Caves complex. It faces the limestone hill that contains several cave temples with shrines and religious murals.

The site is located in Gombak, Selangor, approximately 13 km north of central Kuala Lumpur and is accessed via a short drive or public transport from the capital.

  • Height: Measures about 42.7 metres tall and is finished in gold-coloured paint, making it one of the tallest statues of Lord Murugan in the world.
  • Steps to the caves: Located at the base of a long covered flight of 272 steps that leads up to the cave temples; the stair climb is a primary part of the visitor experience.
