Battlement Mesa is a flat-topped mesa in western Garfield County, Colorado, named for the battlement-like cliffs that give it a crenellated profile. It is a recognizable landscape feature along the Colorado River corridor.
The mesa presents a rim of steep cliffs and a broad, level top. It is used as a scenic landmark and reference point for the nearby towns; the adjacent community that shares its name lies on the mesa’s lower slopes.
The name derives from the resemblance of the cliff line to castle battlements. The mesa is part of the semi-arid plateaus and valley system of western Colorado.
Geographically it sits near the towns of Parachute and Rifle in Garfield County and is closely associated with the Colorado River corridor and Interstate 70.
