Originally a separate island feature, the area developed into a Victorian and 20th-century seaside resort as transport links from nearby towns improved, and it later became integrated with the town of Barry.
Barry Island sits off the coast of the Vale of Glamorgan near the town of Barry, on the Bristol Channel coast southwest of Cardiff. It is reached by road from Barry and the wider Cardiff area.
