Barcelona Cathedral, officially the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, is a Gothic cathedral located in the Barri Gòtic (Gothic Quarter) of Barcelona. Major construction of the present Gothic structure took place between the 13th and 15th centuries, with the cathedral serving as the seat of the city’s archdiocese.

The richly carved choir and the cloister, which contains a small garden and a traditional gaggle of 13 white geese associated with Saint Eulalia. The cathedral also offers rooftop terraces that provide views across the Gothic Quarter and toward other city landmarks.

The façade that most visitors see today was finished in the 19th century as part of a restoration and completion campaign, while the core Gothic fabric remains medieval. It continues to function as both a working cathedral and a major heritage attraction.

The cathedral sits in central Barcelona’s Barri Gòtic, within walking distance of Plaça Sant Jaume and La Rambla, in Catalonia’s largest city.

Barcelona Cathedral (Catedral de Barcelona) is in the Gothic Quarter. The closest metro stops are Jaume I (L4) - a very short walk - and Liceu (L3) on La Rambla, about a 5-10 minute walk. From Barcelona-El Prat Airport the cathedral is roughly 15 km away by road via the B‑10 (Ronda Litoral) or C‑31, with taxi or Aerobus to Plaça Catalunya and a short walk or metro transfer on to the Gothic Quarter.

• Visit the cathedral in the early morning right at opening to avoid coach and cruise-ship crowds; the cloister and rooftop terrace are far quieter first thing and offer the best light for photos.
• Buy combined entry that includes access to the rooftop terrace in advance when possible - the rooftop provides skyline views of the Gothic Quarter and Sagrada Família and often fills up later in the day.
• If you want a quieter experience of the building's interior, check the cathedral's schedule and avoid main mass times (these are still public services) - attending a service is free but restricts photography and tourist access.
