How to Get to Bankura#
Bankura is reachable by regional flights into Durgapur (RDP) or via Kolkata’s main airport (CCU), then by road or rail to the town. Rail is straightforward - Bankura railway station has regular connections to Howrah/Adra, while road buses and taxis cover the rest.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU): From Kolkata (CCU) you can reach Bankura by taking a taxi or app cab to Howrah station (≈40-60 minutes, ₹600-₹1,200) and then an intercity train to Bankura (Howrah-Bankura trains take about 3.5-4.5 hours). An end-to-end road trip by private taxi from CCU to Bankura is around 3.5-4.5 hours and typically costs ₹3,000-₹5,000.
Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport (RDP / Durgapur): RDP is the closer regional airport (flights are limited). From the airport a taxi to Bankura takes roughly 1.5-2 hours; expect fares in the region of ₹2,000-₹3,500 (prices vary with operator and time of day).
Train: Bankura has its own railway station (Bankura / BQA) on South Eastern Railway with regular services from Howrah, Adra and other regional junctions. Typical intercity train times: Howrah-Bankura ~3.5-4.5 hours; fares depend on class (unreserved/SL/CC) - local second-class/unreserved fares are modest (low hundreds of rupees).
Bus: State-run and private buses run between Kolkata, Durgapur/Asansol and Bankura; journey times from Kolkata are about 4-5 hours and fares commonly range ₹150-₹400. Local buses and shared autos serve short hops from nearby towns.
How to Get Around Bankura#
Bankura is easiest to reach by train from Howrah/Adra; buses and taxis fill gaps. For getting around the town, autos and short taxis work best while walking suits the compact centre.
- Train (₹50-₹600) - Rail is the most practical intercity option: Bankura station (BQA) has multiple daily services from Howrah and Adra. Trains are affordable and reasonably reliable; book reserved seats for longer journeys and expect basic facilities at the station.
- Intercity bus (₹100-₹600) - State-run and private buses connect Bankura with Kolkata, Durgapur and neighbouring districts. Buses are frequent and cheap - comfortable Volvo/AC options are available on some routes for higher fares.
- Taxi / Car (₹100-₹5,000) - Taxis and app-based cabs are convenient for door-to-door travel, especially from airports or smaller towns. Negotiate fixed fares for long trips or use metered fares inside town for short runs.
- Auto-rickshaw (₹15-₹200) - Autos handle most short-to-medium urban trips inside Bankura and to nearby villages; fares are low and often negotiable for longer rural runs.
- Motorbike taxi / rental (₹200-₹700/day) - Motorbike taxis are common for short hops; renting a motorcycle is an option for flexible local exploration - ensure you have the correct licence and helmet.
- Walking - Bankura’s centre is compact and walkable for exploring markets and temples; wear comfortable shoes and avoid midday heat.
