Bani Yas City Travel Guide
City City in Abu Dhabi, UAE with modern developments
Bani Yas City anchors western Abu Dhabi coastal development and provides access to mangroves and offshore islands. Visitors head from here to wildlife reserves, birdwatching trips and short coastal excursions.
Why Visit Bani Yas City? #
A coastal and island-linked area that appeals to nature lovers and travelers seeking quieter Emirati escapes near Abu Dhabi. It serves as a gateway to Sir Bani Yas’s wildlife reserve and marine activities, so visitors often pair shoreline relaxation with wildlife safaris and boat trips. Traditional Emirati dishes like machboos and fresh grilled fish appear alongside resort dining. The sense of open desert and protected island habitats sets it apart from busy urban resorts.
Who's Bani Yas City For?
A quiet residential area with neighbourhood parks, schools and family services; proximity to Abu Dhabi and Yas Island means theme park and beach excursions are easily arranged for weekend family outings.
Useful for light industry, logistics and regional branches with direct road access to Abu Dhabi’s commercial hubs. Corporate meetings and larger conferences are usually held in central Abu Dhabi rather than in the suburb itself.
Access to nearby desert areas and the Bani Yas Island wildlife reserve provides options for safaris, boat trips and wildlife viewing. Tours are typically booked from Abu Dhabi and may require transfers.
While the city itself is pragmatic, luxury resorts and wildlife lodges on nearby Bani Yas Island offer high-end safari experiences and private beaches for those seeking upscale stays.

How to Get to Bani Yas City
Bani Yas City is reached most easily via Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH); Dubai International (DXB) is a viable alternative for international connections. Expect to combine a short intercity bus or taxi ride from the main bus/taxi hubs in Abu Dhabi for the final leg.
Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH): Abu Dhabi’s main airport is Abu Dhabi International (AUH). From AUH you can take a metered taxi to Abu Dhabi city centre - expect roughly 30-50 minutes and around 60-110 AED depending on time of day and traffic. There is also a public airport bus (A1) linking AUH with central Abu Dhabi; fares are low (single digits AED) and the trip typically takes 40-60 minutes.
Dubai International Airport (DXB): Dubai’s DXB is the nearest major alternative if you find cheaper or more convenient international connections. Regular intercity buses (E101/E100) run between DXB/Al Ghubaiba in Dubai and Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station for about 25 AED and take roughly 90-120 minutes depending on traffic; a taxi from DXB to Abu Dhabi generally takes around 70-90 minutes and costs in the region of 250-350 AED.
Train: The UAE currently has no public intercity passenger rail service in regular operation that serves Abu Dhabi; Etihad Rail is a national project with phased rollout and passenger services are limited/being developed. For now, rail is not a practical option for reaching Bani Yas City.
Bus: Intercity buses arrive at Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station (the main hub for buses to/from Dubai and other emirates). Dubai-Abu Dhabi routes (E100/E101) cost ~25 AED and take about 1.5-2 hours. Within the emirate, the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport operates local bus services with single fares typically in the low AED range (commonly 2-6 AED) - check local schedules for routes that serve the outskirts or request a taxi for the final leg to Bani Yas City.
How to Get Around Bani Yas City
Driving (rental car or taxi/ride-hail) is the most practical way to get around Bani Yas City and the nearby islands - it gives flexibility and saves time. Public buses are inexpensive and useful for travel into Abu Dhabi city, but expect to use a taxi for the final miles to Bani Yas and for door-to-door convenience.
- Taxis (60-160 AED) - Metered taxis are widely available from Abu Dhabi International Airport and throughout Abu Dhabi. They are the most convenient way to reach Bani Yas City from the airport or from Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station - drivers know the islands and industrial areas. Taxis are reliable for door-to-door travel, especially outside core city hours.
- Ride-hailing (Careem, Uber) (70-180 AED) - Careem and Uber operate in Abu Dhabi and offer the convenience of upfront pricing and card payments. They can be marginally more expensive than regular taxis during peak times but are often easier if you want to reserve a car or need a larger vehicle. Use the app to check estimated fares and arrival times before booking.
- Car rental (120-300 AED per day) - Renting a car is recommended if you want flexibility to explore the islands, reserves, and coastline around Bani Yas. Roads are well maintained and parking is generally straightforward at tourist and resort sites. Factor in fuel costs and note that some island areas may have limited services, so plan fuel and route ahead.
- Intercity buses (Dubai ↔ Abu Dhabi) (25 AED) - The E100/E101 routes connect Dubai and Abu Dhabi; tickets are usually about 25 AED and the trip takes roughly 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic. Buses arrive at Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station, from where you can take a taxi to Bani Yas City for the final leg. Buses are the cheapest option for long-distance travel between emirates.
- Local buses (Abu Dhabi network) (2-6 AED) - Abu Dhabi's Department of Transport runs local routes across the city and suburbs with low single-ride fares (typically a few AED). Coverage improves within the urban area but can be limited for island developments; check route maps and timings in advance. Use local bus services for budget travel into Abu Dhabi and then a short taxi ride to Bani Yas if needed.
- Walking - Walking is practical only for short distances within built-up sections such as resorts, local neighbourhoods, or waterfronts. Temperatures can be very hot for much of the year, so plan walks for early morning or late evening and carry water. For most trips between sites in the Bani Yas area you will rely on a vehicle rather than walking.

Where to Eat in Bani Yas City #

Nightlife in Bani Yas City #
Bani Yas City is a residential and industrial area with very limited after-dark entertainment. For decent nightlife, plan short drives to Yas Island, the Corniche, or downtown Abu Dhabi where bars, concerts and late dinners happen. Expect resort-style venues to be the main option rather than local bars.
Practical tips: licensed venues operate under strict rules and often enforce dress codes; taxis and ride-hailing are the most reliable late-night transport.
Best Bets
- Yas Marina - Waterside restaurants, yachts, and late-night weekend events.
- Yas Bay Waterfront - Newer strip of bars and restaurants with regular live music.
- Ray's Bar (Etihad Towers) - Rooftop bar with skyline views - smart-casual dress suggested.
- Al Maryah Island / The Galleria - Upscale dining and cocktails inside Abu Dhabi's business island.
- Abu Dhabi Corniche - Evening strolls, seaside cafés and chilled waterfront bars.
- Saadiyat Island - Resort restaurants and relaxed hotel bars, quieter after midnight.
