How to Get to Bad Gastein
Bad Gastein is an alpine spa and ski town in Salzburg state, Austria. The nearest airport is Salzburg (SZG) with regular train connections (ÖBB) to Bad Gastein; Munich (MUC) is a larger international alternative with longer rail travel.
Salzburg W. A. Mozart Airport (SZG): Salzburg’s airport is the closest commercial airport to Bad Gastein. From SZG take the airport bus or taxi to Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (S-Bahn or bus 10-25 minutes; bus ticket about €2.80-€3.50; taxis €15-€25). From Salzburg Hauptbahnhof take an ÖBB regional or EC/railjet service toward Bischofshofen and change for the branch line to Bad Gastein; total rail time Salzburg→Bad Gastein is about 1 hour 45 minutes-2 hours.
Munich Airport (MUC): Munich is a major international alternative. Trains from Munich Airport to Salzburg take about 1.5-2 hours (regional + EC/ÖBB) and then onward rail to Bad Gastein (another ~1.75-2 hours).
