How to Get to Az Zulfi#
Az Zulfi (Al Zulfi) is typically reached by road from Riyadh after flying into King Khalid International Airport (RUH). Regular coach services and private transfers are the usual options for the onward journey.
King Khalid International Airport (RUH): Riyadh’s airport is the main international gateway for Al Zulfi (Az Zulfi). Road travel from Riyadh to Al Zulfi takes around 3-4 hours by car depending on traffic.
Domestic airports: There is no large commercial airport inside Al Zulfi; travellers typically fly to Riyadh (RUH) and continue by road or coach.
Train: Saudi Railways and the Saudi Rail Company (SAR) network does not currently provide a direct passenger rail service to Al Zulfi; rail is not a practical arrival option for the city.
Bus: SAPTCO and regional coach operators run scheduled buses between Riyadh and Al Zulfi. Journey times are around 3-4 hours by coach; fares are generally modest and seating classes may vary.
How to Get Around Az Zulfi#
Road travel is the default - take a coach or private transfer from Riyadh after flying into RUH. Within Al Zulfi, taxis and rented cars are the easiest ways to get around.
- Intercity coach (SAPTCO and regional operators) (SAR 40-80) - Coaches from Riyadh run regularly to Al Zulfi; they are comfortable, air-conditioned and an affordable choice. Book online or at SAPTCO counters for specific departure times.
- Taxi / private transfer (SAR 250-600) - Private taxis or pre-booked transfers from Riyadh are convenient for groups or if you have heavy luggage. Expect higher costs than coach travel but greater flexibility on departure times.
- Car / rental (SAR 150-350/day) - Driving from Riyadh is straightforward along main highways; fuel is inexpensive but plan for a multi-hour drive across desert roads and ensure your vehicle is in good condition.
- Local taxi (SAR 5-40) - Taxis are the standard option to move around Al Zulfi once you arrive. Negotiate fares for longer trips outside the city or ensure the meter is used.
- Walking - Central Al Zulfi is walkable for short errands and markets, but longer distances are best by car or taxi because of the heat and dispersed layout.
