The Ayni Opera and Ballet Theatre is the principal opera house in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, named after the Tajik writer Sadriddin Ayni. It is the country’s main venue for staged opera and ballet performances.
The theatre contains an auditorium and stage facilities for full-scale opera and ballet productions, along with related rehearsal and administrative spaces. Programming covers national and international repertoire and it functions as a cultural focal point for the city.
The building dates from the Soviet period when many national cultural institutions were established across Central Asia; it has continued to serve as Dushanbe’s main performing-arts venue through independence and into the present.

How to Get to Ayni Opera and Ballet Theatre #
Located on Rudaki Avenue in central Dushanbe. From the main square (60-90 minutes on foot depending on route) or a 10-15 minute taxi ride from Dushanbe International Airport. Many city minibuses (marshrutkas) and taxis stop along Rudaki Avenue; tell the driver “Opera” (Opera-i Ayni).
