‘Aydhab (Aydhab) is the site of a former Red Sea port located on the western shore of the Red Sea in what is now Sudan’s Red Sea State. It was an important medieval trading and pilgrimage harbour and today survives as a coastal ruin rather than an inhabited town.
The site’s visible remains reflect its past role in regional maritime routes and pilgrimage traffic to the Arabian Peninsula; there are limited modern facilities on site and access is often by road along the coastal plain. The location is chiefly visited for historical and archaeological interest rather than regular tourist services.
