How to Get to Attapeu

Attapeu is in far‑southern Laos and is most practically reached by regional flights when available or by a long road journey from Pakse. The town has a small regional airport; most travellers arrive by bus/minivan from Pakse or neighboring provinces.

By Air

Attapeu Airport (AOU): Attapeu has a small regional airport (AOU) with limited commercial services; when flights operate they provide the quickest access to town. From the airport to Attapeu town centre taxis and tuk‑tuks are available (short ride under 20 minutes).

Pakse International Airport (PKZ): Many visitors travel to Attapeu via Pakse (PKZ) and then continue by road. Pakse-Attapeu by road is a long overland journey; from Pakse Airport you can catch a bus or minivan, or hire a private transfer to Attapeu (travel time around 4-6 hours depending on route and stops).

By Train & Bus

Train: Laos does not offer regular conventional passenger rail services linking Attapeu; there is no local train station for this town.

Bus: Overland buses and shared minivans are the standard way to reach Attapeu from Pakse and other southern Lao towns. Buses from Pakse take several hours (typically 4-6 hours) depending on stops; minibuses are faster but less comfortable. Expect to use the Attapeu bus station or town minivan stands on arrival.
